Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) as agency of The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment is the Dutch governmental organisation responsible for water management. Because of The Netherlands being situated in a Delta flood management is one of the most important issues Rijkswaterstaat is working on. Therefore Rijkswaterstaat manages the main water systems , the main national flood defences and provides policy tools for the ministry, coordinates research on flood risk management and provides the national flood defence design tools and assessment tools. In this role Rijkswaterstaat is involved in the international cooperation in flood management (European Flood Directive, Rhine and Maas river commissions etc.).
From 17-19 September 2019, the final System-Risk Conference took place in Potsdam, Germany.
SYSTEM-RISK ETN jointly organises with the SPATE (Space-Time Dynamics of Extreme Floods, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) (FOR 2416)) consortium a workshop on the definition of extreme flood and storm events.
The System-Risk final conference will bring together flood risk researchers and practitioners from administration, the insurance industry, and consultancy to discuss novel approaches.
